E-FILING SCHEME HELD UP BUT HMCTS DENIES ANY DATA SECURITY RISK
HM Courts and Tribunals Service (HMCTS) recently received criticism for its proposed E-Filing scheme being held up in the court system. However, despite reports of data security issues, HMCTS has denied that there are any risks to user data.
HMCTS officials say that the E-Filing system was designed to provide more efficient document handling and sharing between parties, while also protecting the data of users. The system would enable lawyers and other court users to securely upload and access documents and information using a secure web portal.
The system was designed to be compliant with the latest data protection laws and regulations, such as General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). To this end, the system’s security measures include encryption of data, two-factor authentication, and a “double layer†firewall to prevent unauthorised access to the system.
Despite these assurances, the E-Filing system has been delayed for months due to security concerns. This has prompted some to question the reliability of the system and the extent of its security measures.
In response to these concerns, HMCTS has assured users that the system is secure and meets the necessary standards. They further state that the system will be tested thoroughly before it is made available to the public.
Overall, the E-Filing scheme is a welcome development for the court system. If it can be proven to be secure and reliable, it could potentially save users significant time and effort by allowing them to securely upload and access documents in one place. However, with the delay in implementation, it remains to be seen whether the system will meet the necessary standards.
